The BTCSoftware team were delighted to hear the latest results from one of our chosen charities, Woking Street Angels.
The organisation fields small teams of volunteers who walk the streets of Woking town centre each Friday and Saturday night, offering help or providing a listening ear wherever it is needed.
Over the past 5 years, and between the key times of 2000-0400hrs when the Street Angels are present, violent crime in Woking has dropped by 64.5%.
Between March and December 2016 the Woking Street Angels:
- Gave out 57 blankets
- Cleared up 1955 bottles
- Gave out 215 pairs of flip flops to those who had lost their shoes, broken their heels or could no longer walk safely in their heels
- Distributed hundreds and hundreds of lollipops as an alternative to on-street drinking, smoking and loud behaviour
- Helped 230 people
Our CEO, Rob Ellis, commenting on an observation he made when volunteering one night to work with the Street Angels said:
“There was one guy a little worse for wear who would only let the Angels help him because he remembered they’d given him a lollipop on the way to the club. It was great to see the support and help they’re giving people each weekend. It is making such an improved difference to the local community”
BTCSoftware will continue to support the Woking Street Angels’ great work and the positive impact this is having on Woking town centre at the weekends.
A big well done to all the Woking Street Angels volunteers.
